Motherhood: A Sacred Journey of Sacrifice, Faith, and Divine Help

For the past 22 years, I’ve worn the title of “Mother.” But if I’m honest, it’s been more of a divine assignment than a title—one marked not by ease, but by intentional sacrifice, fierce love, and unshakable faith. Motherhood, for me, has never been a stroll in the park. It has been intense, soul-stretching, and life-altering. It has meant pouring from a cup that often felt empty, and trusting that God would keep refilling it—even when I couldn’t see how.

I have laid aside many things—friendships, career opportunities, further education, social life—all so I could invest deeply in the lives of my children. Not out of regret, but out of calling.

My desire was, and still is, to raise godly, morally upright, intellectually balanced, and emotionally whole children who carry within them the power to change their world for good.

This is the essence of motherhood as I’ve known it: a sacred assignment from God.

She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed…”— Proverbs 31:27-28

Through sleepless nights, uncertain decisions, whispered prayers, and faith-fueled sacrifices, I, Oluwafunmilola Abiodun OTOLORIN have been helped by the Lord every step of the way.

Now, I’m writing a book titled: HELPED BY THE LORD—a heartfelt journey of my life from childhood to motherhood. It will be filled with stories, biblical insights, and encouragement for anyone navigating seasons that require more than just human strength.

Motherhood has taught me that while we may not always feel seen or celebrated, heaven is always watching. And the seeds we plant in faith today will bloom into legacies tomorrow.

We live in a noisy and lousy world, full of distractions. Accidental mothers get swayed away by these attention seeking ‘noise’ but intentional mothers pursue their vision relentlessly until it sees the light of day. The only way to stay FOCUSED is to keep your goals in sight while working to see them achieved against all odds.

But ONE THING is NEEDFUL: and Mary hath CHOSEN that GOOD PART, which shall not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:42

To every mother reading this:

I make bold to say;

Your sacrifices matter.

Your presence matters.

And even in your weakness, God is STRONG on your behalf.

I’ve been doing motherhood afraid over the past 22 years, yet I’m not afraid to walk this sacred path. So I urge you; Don’t be afraid when the chips are down and nothing seems to be working, ONE THING is certain: God is working behind the scenes!

Always remember:

“You are being helped—by the LORD. GOD is WORKING and His GRACE is at WORK IN YOU!”
